Al Amanah College enjoys the benefits of specialised learning facilities including many that have been newly built or renovated. Since 2002 the school community, state and federal governments have made a significant investment in new facilities to meet the ever changing needs of our students and teachers.

Recent projects include the refurbishment of science laboratories, music room, graphics room and food technology rooms, the installation of back to base new fire alarm system, the completion of the installation of a state of the art alarm system and CCTV cameras in 2009 and the completion of the installation of IWBs in all General learning classrooms in 2012. 150 iPads on trolleys available to all classes for everyday use.

2014 saw a number of new ventures alongside all the regular school’s events, one of these remarkable ventures was the completion of an exciting new school hall block that consists of a new multipurpose hall, Al Iman Mosque, ablution facilities and amenities. The fund by the Australian Government through the BER program Building the Education Revolution has enabled the school to build this magnificent hall block. Our students are now enjoying their everyday prayer at the new facility of Masjid Al Iman. The completion of this development shows that Al Amanah has used the funds wisely and responsibly to build a relevant and engaging environment where our students will continue to learn and grow.

Our total enrolments is around 850, primary and secondary school coordinators, secondary school curriculum coordinator, dedicated teachers including classroom teachers, PE teachers, Music Teacher, Welfare Officers, ICT specialist, in addition to a Learning Support Team, Teacher Librarian, Arabic & Religious Studies teachers and one Science laboratory assistant. The school is well equipped with facilities including two halls, two new playgrounds, library, graphics room, two computer rooms, kiln, arts room, music room, science laboratory, design and technology workshop, food technology room, screening room, senior study, canteen, uniform shop.

A key purpose of this document is to address how the mandatory requirements of each course the school offers to deliver the Record of School Achievement (RoSA) and Higher School Certificate (HSC) are met.

All general classrooms at Al Amanah College have many features that facilitate learning. Each classroom is fitted with a white board, computer(s), Smart board (IWB), data projector and internet access. The flexibility of setting up learning areas that enable individual, small group or whole class activities owing to movable chairs and tables (seating arrangement) promotes diversity in students’ learning styles.

A well-resourced teachers’ library. Resources for all KLA’s for Primary and High school. The library has a reading corner for primary students to borrow home readers and a guided reading wall with readers from Rigby and Scholastic. The Library has resources for Arabic and Religious studies. Students have access to an extensive number of books that can be used for subject specific projects or enjoyment. Students are encouraged to visit the library to borrow Premier Reading Challenge books as well as search for information in the research/computer area. The library also offers opportunities for lessons to be conducted and senior students to study (Years 11-12) in designated study rooms.

The Multipurpose hall is used for a variety of events, which creates great opportunities for the community to attend community functions and workshops. Parents and students can also access the hall for assemblies, school meetings, presentation days, social events, formal examinations, drama and indoor sports.

The playgrounds at Al Amanah College play a vital role in providing students with space to participate in sporting programs that promote physical strength, coordination and balance. The playgrounds are also used in multiple ways such as:

Undercover area – setting up activities / meeting areas / alternate activities owing to wet weather
Mathematics – using the outdoor area to generate tallies / graphs / measuring length
Science / HSIE – Conducting experiments / focusing on the role of the environment
Socially – students are able to interact with others during recess/lunch

The three computer rooms are fully equipped with 28 computers each, a printer and an interactive whiteboard, a television and a Data Projector for presentations; they are used mainly by students with supervised internet access. All computers have been upgraded to windows 10 and with major required application software for specialist classes such as Auto Cad, Adobe Photoshop, and Sony Vegas moviemaker. The school facilitates the students to develop their ICT skills and practice them for the day-to-day activities. One room is available in the main lunch break for student use. All classes have access to the computer labs and attend once a week at least for two periods.

Safety is a key feature for use of any technology. The timber is fully operational with fully equipped electric and hand tools. Some of the major tools use are drop saw, table saw, band saw and stand drill. Students are highly encourages to use hand tools such as handsaw, jigsaw, planer, chisel etc. to develop their tool using skill. These classes prepare the students for practical life skills.

Technology rooms including access to the computer laboratories enable students to undertake IST/IPT subjects. Graphics room is one of the State of the Art facilities provided by Al Amanah College to facilitate quality teaching and learning. The room has furniture suitable for Graphics work from stages 4 to 6 and all Design equipment necessary for Architecture and design. The environment is highly conducive to teaching and learning. Students using the classroom have a sense of belonging and ownership and have been looking after the facilities available.

There are 9 Graphics design benches with 18 Drawing boards. The facilities also include set squares, T- Squares and Drawing clips which students use to consistently produce high standard of work. The room is also equipped with an IWB which greatly enhances teaching and learning. The school has purchased Graphics software such as AutoCAD and ARCHICAD to assist student with their major work for School Certificate and HSC. As a result of these soft wares our students have been able to produce some outstanding work over the years

The Food Technology Room contains a whiteboard, kitchen facilities equipped with benches, sinks, refrigerators, ovens, microwave, utensils and kitchen appliances.

The Visual Art Room is fitted with a smart board, data projector with internet access, wet areas, large cupboards and shelves for storage of art materials/supplies/tools and drying areas for art works. The Visual Arts curriculum is delivered in semester blocks and is undertaken in Year 7 and 8 as a mandatory stage 4 Visual Arts course. In Year 9 and 10 students can select Visual Arts as an elective and likewise in stage six for the preliminary and HSC course.

The Creative Arts department offers a wide range of basics and in-depth studies into many different artistic disciplines in both the 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional forms. The creative arts department also boasts a well-resourced collection of art making materials and equipment. Al Amanah College also has a well-established printmaking and ceramics departments, with firing facilities on site including an electric kiln and pottery wheel studio.

Al Amanah College strives to educate students in all facets of the Creative Arts including an extensive contemporary and historical Art curriculum which is delivered using a collection of texts, images and interactive whiteboard` software for students to maximise understanding and enjoyment of the units studied.

An ESL room which is set up into two areas to facilitate two lessons at the one time. Each area consists of carpeted floors used for shared reading, and desk space for independent work and writing. Display boards include a word wall, punctuation, and Grammar and text types.

Science laboratory is fully equipped and fitted with a smart board, data projector with internet access, fume cupboards, work benches (for practical experiments), chemical storage, storage shelves/cupboards for all glassware and equipment, microwave, laboratory grade microscopes, acidity meters, a water distilling unit; a greenhouse for science.

Music room is fully equipped and fitted with a board, computer with internet access, keyboards casios, Octave keyboards, conga drums, pairs of bongo drums, various size tambourine, numerous idiophones. Music notation computer program. There are also several reference books as well as instruction books on how to play these instruments. The school also has at its disposal a small recording studio or the use of the 92.1 FM radio station studios for students who wish to get a better understanding at the insight into music technology.

Emergency Procedures And Relevant Facilities

Evacuations and lockdowns are carried out ensuring that students and staff are aware of procedures and safety at Al Amanah College. Disability provisions are in place with a wheelchair ramp and elevators providing safe access to all floors. All general classrooms are lockable and provide safety from intruders in the case of a lockdown.

The Current Standard And State Of Repair Of Facilities

All WHS issues that may arise from day to day are recording in the Al Amanah College Maintenance book unless it is an issue of an urgent nature, which is reported to the Principal or Principal’s delegate immediately.

The WHS committee, which comprises of general class and specialist teachers hold meetings to ensure that all appropriate actions carried out in order to maintain the safety of equipment used at the School. The Risk Assessment checklist is used for a means of identifying possible safety risks in the specialist rooms (Refer to WHS Policy & Risk Management Policy).
